How do I use RFID coins?

RFID coins are NFC tags you program from Medication Timer so a tap at the pack can log a dose, start a timer, or show medication details. Programming and tap-to-log require Family Care. Everyone can open Profile → Devices to read how a tap works. Medication Timer does not sell the tags. See What NFC tags should I buy for RFID coins?

Requires Medication Timer 2.7.2 or later on iPhone or Android to write the chip. The web app can save what a coin should do; you finish programming with the phone.

Program a coin

  1. Open Profile → Devices.
  2. Tap Add device.
  3. Queue one or more actions (up to eight). Optionally bind a family member, medication, routine, dosage, or saved quick timer. Each field can stay Ask when tapped.
  4. Keep or edit the name (it defaults from your choices).
  5. Hold the phone to the coin until programming finishes. Keep it within a few centimetres of the back of the phone. Foil packs need a ferrite-backed coin.
  6. Stick the coin on the pack, or keep it in a drawer next to the tray.

On Android, turn NFC on in system settings first. On iPhone, keep the app in the foreground while writing.

Tap a coin

Hold the phone to the coin. Confirm the screen. The queue runs in order. Show medication details opens a read-only card with Log dose, and Mark routine taken when a slot is due.

A tap while you are not subscribed opens the Devices explainer. If the coin is not in your household, or the binding is missing, the app asks you to reprogram.

Confirm is required. The coin does not prove the medicine was swallowed and does not answer whether it is safe to take. Duplicate confirm on the same coin within about 12 minutes does nothing after the first successful write.

See What can an RFID coin do? for the action list, and What is Large interface mode? if you want bigger type on the details card.
