On Android 12 and later, Medication Timer 2.5.2 offers a lock screen widget and an ongoing notification so you can see as-needed timer countdowns without opening the app.
Both show the same Active Timers as the home screen widget — household PRN timers outside active care sessions.
Lock screen widget
- Long-press the lock screen (or open lock screen customization from Settings → Display → Lock screen).
- Add a widget → Medication Timer → Active Timers (Lock screen).
- Place it in an available slot (layout varies by device and Android version).
The widget shows a compact inline countdown for a waiting timer. Tap to open the app.
Ongoing notification
While an as-needed timer is in the too-soon / waiting phase (red or orange in the app), Android shows a persistent notification in your notification shade with:
- Medication and member name
- Live countdown
- Log dose when timing rules allow (green phase)
This is Android’s equivalent of iOS Live Activities — it keeps the timer visible until it is safe to dose again or you sign out. The notification dismisses automatically when no timer is waiting.
Notification permission
The ongoing notification requires notification permission for Medication Timer. If you denied notifications, enable them under Settings → Apps → Medication Timer → Notifications on your device.
Troubleshooting
- Update to Medication Timer 2.5.2 or later — widgets and the ongoing notification need native code from that release.
- Sign in on the phone; signed-out state clears widgets and dismisses the ongoing notification.
- If the countdown looks wrong, open the app to force a sync.
